Most of the major search engines such as Yahoo, are turning to the directory approach. This eliminates the use of meta tags and door way pages. What they will do, is give you their advice on what has worked for them to get your site listed and ranked on the major search engines. Below is a list of search engines they will help you submit your site to. The "recommended" list of search engines will bring you the majority of your traffic. Surprisingly, the other search engines do not generate as much traffic as one might think.

RECOMMENDED SEARCH ENGINES!

These are the search engines we recommend getting ranked on (all free but Yahoo). The ones listed below will bring you the majority of traffic. Regarding Yahoo, you might have to pay them a $299 fee to review and consider your web site. It all depends on what category your web site falls in. If you are not sure, feel free to email the sales department. This fee is your responsibility.

These search engines are possible, but we feel that they are not as good of an investment. Looksmart.com is also a paid directory, which powers the other ones listed below it. If you want to be listed on these, you must cover Looksmart's submission fee.

The only search engine we have not yet covered is Overture (goto.com), which is a bid for placement search engine. The way it works, is you setup an account with them and bid a price for your site to be listed for a particular keyword (no limit). If you want to be #1 for example, then you must bid higher than everyone else (50 cents per click for example). Their top three listed sites are displayed on Yahoo, AltaVista, Aol, Netscape, Infospace, and Netscape. However, we recommend getting ranked on those particular search engines, instead of having to pay Overture for it. You may use their services, but this isn't included in the free consulting.
